Former Goldman Sachs executive Roger Ng will be extradited to the United States of America (US), should this be requested by the country, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said.

"If the US asks (for Ng) to be extradited, we will send (him) to America," Mahathir was quoted as saying by Bernama after chairing a Bersatu supreme council meeting in Selangor yesterday.

He said action against Ng, if any, is to be taken in the US as that was where the alleged offence took place.

Ng, whose full name is Ng Chong Hwa, was arrested here on Nov 1, following an arrest warrant filed by the US.

This came following indictments filed by the US Department of Justice against Ng, fugitive financier Jho Low and fellow Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner in relation to the multi-billion ringgit 1MDB scandal.

According to the charge documents, the DOJ claimed that Ng conspired to launder billions of dollars embezzled from 1MDB as well as conspired to violate the American Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA).

It was then reported that Ng was to be deported back to the US to face the charges.

However, Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh said the DOJ must ensure that the documentation process on the extradition is completed within the 60-day remand order.
