Umno vice-president Mahdzir Khalid has announced that he will be relinquishing his position as the chairperson of Terengganu Umno by year end.
According to a Sinar Online report, the Padang Terap MP said that he would be handing over the position to another state leader beginning next year.
"The name of my replacement will be announced in the near future, after the appointment letter has been signed by the party president," he reportedly said after chairing the last Terengganu Umno meeting at the Seri Keluang camp.
Sinar also reported speculation that the post will go to a former division chief, who held a significant role in the state in the past.
It was previously reported that Mahdzir, who assumed the role in July, stated that he did not wish to hold on to the role for long.
The former minister, who hails from Kedah, had said he was willing to relinquish the role for a more qualified local.
