PAS has instructed all its members to attend the rally against the ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd) on Dec 8.

According to PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan (above), they have been told to gather at Dataran Merdeka between 1pm to 6pm.

"The objective is to protest against any plan to ratify Icerd and any human rights treaty which contravenes the spirit of the Federal Constitution.

"(Secondly, we are) protesting against any threat to the position of Islam, the rulers, Malays and Bahasa Melayu," he said in a circular released today.

Takiyuddin said party members were instructed to gather at four staging areas - Masjid Negara, Majid Jamek Kampung Baru, Masjid Dang Wangi and the Sogo shopping centre - before proceeding to Dataran Merdeka.

"All state leaders and members are instructed to gather as many supporters as possible for this programme to show our unity on such issues," said Takiyuddin.

He said the rally participants were also told to wear white.

Meanwhile, Selangor PAS has compelled all its local chapters to purchase at least 100 t-shirts - priced between RM25 and RM30 each depending on size - for the rally.

The t-shirt orders must be made before Dec 3, according to a circular issued by Selangor PAS secretary Abdul Halim Omar.

The Dec 8 rally is being organised by a group known as “Ummah” and has vowed to proceed with the rally despite Putrajaya stating that Malaysia will not be party to Icerd.
