Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Hanipa Maidin wants the claim that a PAS MP was barred from entering a government school to be looked into.

Hanipa, who is from Amanah, said he too experienced the same treatment when Pakatan Harapan was in the opposition and did not want to see such a culture to be perpetuated.

He noted that PAS' Jerai MP Sabri Azit, when debating the budget speech in the Dewan Rakyat, said he was barred from entering government schools despite being an elected representative.

"It is very unfortunate if the claim is true and should not happen in the era of the Harapan government. It was a frequent occurrence for opposition MPs during the BN regime.

"It is not right and goes against the principle of equality before the law under Article 8 of the Federal Constitution," he said in a statement today.

Hanipa, who is in charge of law in the government, said schools should not block people whom they do not agree with from entering their premises unless there were valid reasons.

"In the case raised by the Jerai MP, let us wait for the response from the Education Ministry during the winding-up speech (in Parliament) this Wednesday," he said.
