Former Umno leader Isa Samad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur, amid reports of a  charge looming over him for alleged abuse of power.

The Star quoted Isa’s wife, Sharliza Mohd Khalid, who said that the 69-year-old former Felda chairperson was in “fine health” and was admitted on Monday to undergo a routine medical check-up.

"Many people have been calling to ask me about his condition.

"He has been admitted for a routine check-up that he undergoes once every five years," Sharliza is reported as saying.

Prior to quitting Umno to contest as an Independent in the Port Dickson by-election, Isa had served as Negeri Sembilan menteri besar for 22 years.

He also previously served as the state assemblyperson for Linggi and Bagan Pinang in Negeri Sembilan, as well as Jempol MP.

Earlier this week, Singapore’s Straits Times quoted sources who said Isa may be charged with abuse of power in connection with the purchase of a hotel in Sarawak at an inflated price during his tenure as Felda chairperson from 2011 to January 2017.

The sources reportedly said that the MACC had wrapped up its probe into the 2014 purchase of Merdeka Palace Hotel in Kuching, Sarawak, and would proceed to submit its papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

A second source was quoted by daily as saying that the MACC had also recommended charges for alleged abuse of power.

Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites, a five-star hotel, was reportedly purchased by Felda subsidiary Felda Investment Corporation for RM160 million when it was said to be worth only RM110 million.
