The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is launching an infographic to be used as a guide for the public to identify the early signs of child abuse victims, said its minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

She said babysitters were not the only predators in child abuse cases, as there have been victims who were abused by their biological parents too.

"The ministry will launch an infographic to make the public, especially parents, aware of the signs that can be the alarm bell to abuse cases,” she told reporters after attending a closed-door meeting with the Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Children's Investigation Division (D11) here today.

Also present was Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

Wan Azizah, who is also deputy prime minister, said that currently, childminders looking after fewer than four children were not required to be registered with the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, but they were however encouraged to do so.

“If possible we want all childminders to be registered. We want parents to send their children to registered childminders,” she said.

The latest report on child abuse case involved 11-month-old Nur Muazara Ulfa Mohammad Zainal who died at about 10.30am on Friday (Nov 9), after spending two days in critical condition at Serdang Hospital.

The postmortem found that the cause of death was believed to be due to blunt-force trauma to the head. The baby was also found to have tears on her private parts.

Meanwhile, Noor Rashid said the police would assist parents wanting to check on the background of childminders to ensure they had no criminal record.
