Votes disappearing in 'planned manner', says PKR Youth chief candidate
ADS

PKR POLLS | PKR Youth chief candidate Akmal Nasir is alleging that votes from the party's election are going missing in a “systematic and planned” manner that appear to disadvantage deputy president hopeful Rafizi Ramli.

Akmal claimed that a large proportion - 8,926 votes or 44.6 percent - were from 17 divisions.

These divisions amounted to 8,926 of the total 20,000 missing votes for the deputy president post nationwide, except Sarawak, where results have not been finalised.

“The 17 divisions, of which include nine divisions are in Sabah and eight divisions are in Selangor, were expected to deliver majorities in favour of Rafizi.

“This is based on mobilisation (efforts) and voting receipts collected by his supporters.

“[...] This number is too big and is concentrated in certain divisions, this can cause the results of the entire central leadership council to not reflect the choices made by PKR members nationwide,” he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

Akmal, who is Johor Bahru MP and aligned to Rafizi, also claimed that occurrences of missing votes intensified in the last four weeks of party polls - as more divisions saw over 20 percent of votes for the deputy president post go missing.

“[...] It appears this was being done in a systematic and selective way because it only began in the fourth week of the party polls, and only involved certain states and divisions,” he added.

The nine Sabah divisions are Kota Marudu, Pensiangan (before the re-election), Tenom, Kudat, Tawau, Kota Belud, Silam, Kinabatangan and Semporna.

These eight Selangor divisions are Kuala Langat, Puchong, Selayang, Klang, Kapar, Hulu Selangor, Hulu Langat and Shah Alam.

Malaysiakini is contacting the party’s election committee (JPP) for comment.

When asked afterwards who he believed was behind these missing votes, Akmal said he did not want to name names as he wanted “to be fair to everyone”.

“Once the facts are out there, the party leadership should instruct for a proper transparent investigation to be done - not just to find the culprits.

“For us, this is our party. We don't intend to create trouble, but we want to help make the party stronger as a family,” he said, adding that all findings will be submitted to the party’s political bureau tonight.

Among those who accompanied Akmal at the press conference were Hulu Selangor MP June Leow, Kapar MP Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, Subang MP Wong Chen, Sungai Siput MP S Kesavan and Tanjong Malim MP Chang Lih Kang.

The PKR political bureau is slated to hold a meeting at Parliament tonight.
