12 migrants nabbed under Ops Mega in Alor Setar

The Kedah Immigration Department detained 12 foreign nationals, including a four-year-old Thai girl, in an operation carried out in the district here, from last night until early today.

Its director Zuhair Jamaludin said in the 10-hour Ops Mega 3.0 which ended at 8am, 13 Immigration personnel were mobilised to check on residential premises and restaurants.

"After checking on 23 premises, 10 males and two females (including a child) comprising Indonesian, Bangladeshi, Indian and Thai nationals were detained," he said in a statement here today.

According to Zuhair the 12 foreigners aged between four and 38 years were found to have no valid travel documents and had violated the terms of their visit pass.

He said they would be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1958/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.

“The foreigners are being detained at the state immigration lockup in Anak Bukit, before being handed over to the Immigration detention depot in Belatek, Sik,” he added.
