Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be heading to the PAS-led state of Terengganu to kick-start his nationwide tour to revive the party's spirit following its defeat in the last general election.

Party information chief Shamsul Anuar Nasarah said the tour, which begins today, would end in Kelantan. It would also feature Umno's top leaders.

According to Umno Online, Shamsul  said the tour is part of the measures outlined by Zahid in his speech during the party's annual general assembly last month.

He said Zahid would also meet with the respective state and division leaders during the tour.

“The programme is in line with the efforts to rekindle the idealism of Umno's struggle so that the party can rise again and continue its responsibility as the biggest Malay party in the country.

“In his speech, Zahid said the main direction for Umno is to win the 15th general election and return to power.

“To do this, all efforts must be focused on ensuring Umno remains strong and receives the support of the people,” Shamsul added.

Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had asked Zahid to consider going on leave in view of his court cases.

Last week, the Umno president was slapped with 45 charges of money laundering, criminal breach of trust and receiving gratification.
