Yoursay: The success of RMK11 is not just up to gov't

YOURSAY | 'We need to psych ourselves out of the quagmire we have sunk into...'

Dr M hopes RMK11 review will take M'sia from kleptocracy to democracy

Cogito Ergo Sum: Now that the pieces of the great jigsaw puzzle of democracy are coming together, it is up to the people to pull up their bootstraps and help this government to recover.

We need to psych ourselves out of the quagmire we have sunk into and move forward.

The plan is only good if it works and to work, the rakyat have to embrace it and change their old thinking.

ADS

Mission Accomplished: I am glad Malaysians can see the light at the end of the tunnel - removal of Umno/BN kleptocracy has made it possible.

Let us not look back but forward, with determination and the will to succeed.

Along the way, we will undoubtedly encounter distractors and Umno leaders who are equally determined to see the failure of Malaysia under the new Pakatan Harapan administration.

ADS

Take heart, Malaysians have proven we can work as one, and overcome any difficulties on the path to a new and democratic Malaysia.

Pakcik Am: Confidence is elusive. It cannot be purchased. It has to be earned.

What Malaysians worked for over the past 60 years have been destroyed by Najib's kleptocracy.

This was allowed by the civil service, the judiciary and the entire cabinet and the political coalition.

It is now so difficult, nay, well-nigh impossible in the future, to regain the lost hard-earned confidence.

Kahlil Gibran: PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, I don't think that can happen as long as you are there. You are the one who destroyed the democracy not (former prime minister) Najib (Abdul Razak).

Anonymous_1530263515: In some ways, Khalil Gibran is right.

But that was in the past. We should now work together as a nation to re-build Malaysia.

Khalil Gibran, I believe, is a patriotic person and does care for his country. God bless.

Anonymous_c3c03cb2: Mahathir is now a changed man. He's righting the wrongs.

He has to, because Allah will hold him accountable when the day comes.

Harry Mou: The racial discrimination policies have failed after decades of implementation, resulting in today's trillion ringgit debts and parasitic ‘tongkat’ culture of one particular race.

Now, you are going to do the same and expect different results?

Retnam: Next month Mahathir will say the RMK11 is not written on stone, and so no need to fulfil the promises made in it. Remember what he said about the Harapan manifesto?

Dr M: Two-term limit for PM, menteri besar and chief ministers

Ferdtan: This is the best news if all these reforms are passed as stated. Never again will we have one prime minister for 22 years.

Prime ministers or presidents around the world always start with good intentions, but once they taste power, their egos set in.

In the beginning, they often allow constructive criticisms as part of democracy but as time goes by and with such great power in their hand, they inevitably will change. They become thin-skinned and most often will throw their adversaries into jails.

Former Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos was one example. He started well by cleaning up the streets of criminals.

Then we saw what happened - the corruption and the abuses of power, and even complicit in assassination of his main rival, Benigno Aquino.

Closer to home, Malaysians were so elated with “2M leadership” at the beginning. For those who were not born yet, 2M was Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his then deputy Musa Hitam. Dr M started well, but can we also not see the destruction of democracy at the end of his reign?

Thankfully now, he is undoing what he had failed us.

We have to thank the chiefs (not only Mahathir alone) of PKR, DAP and recently, Bersatu, from being a strong opposition to becoming the ruling government, saving the country from financial crisis.

We must not forget PAS’ contribution in the old Pakatan Rakyat, for they too had helped in galvanising the support for opposition. Too bad they turned rogue.

Enlighten: Finally, he is doing something positive. He should limit his role to reforming the laws while letting younger ministers handle the economy.

RR: This is a long-waited limitation on term of office for prime minister, menteri besar, chief minister, etc. A progressive strategy for the long term well-being of the nation.

Cocomomo: Good changes. Continue with positive changes towards a truly great Malaysia free of corruption, racism and religious bigotry.

Anonymous 1802761448130592: These are the ways to go, to bring Malaysia to great heights and respectability among the great nations of the world.

We are mighty glad and proud to have kicked out the corrupt, broken and abusive BN government and voted in Pakatan Harapan with hope for a brighter, better Malaysia.

We understand some of the proposed reforms may take a little while to implement but it's the spirit and will that matter.

What else can we say? Syabas!

Anonymous_0f3056fa: Excellent plan, but it all boils down to implementation and execution work timeline.

Otherwise, all these are mere concepts and ideas.
