The family of Mohd Fatah Hashim, a 34-year-old firefighter who drowned during a search and rescue mission in Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong earlier this month, will get a new home.

Johor Menteri Besar Osman Sapian in a Facebook posting said that Fatah's widow Noor Nadia Kamaludin, 29, had informed him that her husband was planning to get the family a new home.

"I will help facilitate the acquisition of a People's Housing Programme (PPR) home for them and provide training, skills and a job opportunity for Noor Nadia so that she can support the lives of her two children," he said.

Prior to this, Indera Mahkota MP Saifuddin Abdullah had met with Fatah's family members in Kampung Baru Beserah near Kuantan.

Saifuddin said that Noor Nadia, who is renting a home in Klang, wished to return to her hometown in Kulai and own her own house.

On Oct 3, six members of the Fire and Rescue Department's water rescue unit drowned during the search and rescue operation for Muhammad Ilham Fahmy Mohammad Azzam, 17, who was feared missing in a mining pool.
