MACC hauls Zahid to court

The MACC has laid 45 criminal charges against Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in relations to receiving gratification, criminal breach of trust and money laundering.

According to the charge sheets, the value involved in these 45 charges adds up to RM114 million.

Zahid said the trial was a test from God and that he will use the courts to clear his name.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan said the party's leadership may have to suspend Zahid from his duties in order to protect the party's image. Lawyer Adnan Seman said there was a precedent in 2009.

Former Umno president Najib Abdul Razak showed up at the Kuala Lumpur court complex to offer Zahid moral support.

Meanwhile, former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin urged party members to keep their spirits up.

Two companies that were named in the charge sheets - Datasonic Group Bhd and MyEG Services Bhd - said they were not involved in the investigations.

1MDB gains rights to Equanimity

1MDB subsidiaries 1MDB Energy Holdings Ltd and 1MDB Global Investment Ltd are the rightful owners of superyacht Equanimity, the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled.

Carpet trader Deepak Jaikishan has challenged Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor to face him in court instead of instructing their lawyers to strike out his suits.

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang has filed a suit against former police chief Hanif Omar over the latter's remark concerning the 1969 racial riots.
