Azmin pulls ahead of Rafizi in S'gor albeit a strong challenge

PKR POLLS | Azmin Ali has pulled ahead of rival Rafizi Ramli for the PKR deputy president race after party members went to the polls in Selangor for the first round of voting (Selangor I).

According to the unofficial results, Azmin received 9,337 votes to Rafizi's 8,563 votes after nine divisions in Selangor went to the polls today.

The divisions that voted today are Sabah Bernam, Sungai Besar, Hulu Selangor, Serdang, Kelana Jaya, Subang, Kapar, Kota Raja and Sepang.

Even though Azmin is the incumbent Selangor PKR chief, he saw a strong challenge in his home base.

Rafizi managed to win the divisions of Hulu Selangor, Kelana Jaya and Kapar.

Meanwhile, divisions such as Sabak Bernam and Serdang gave strong backing to Azmin, giving him a huge gap to rival Rafizi.

However, the results in the remaining divisions were close, with around 100 votes difference or less respectively.

Following the latest round of voting, the total tally now stands at 28,972 votes for Azmin and 28,225 votes for Rafizi, giving the incumbent PKR deputy president a 747-vote advantage.

Previously, Azmin was only leading Rafizi by a single vote. Rafizi also managed to briefly take a 27-vote lead on Tuesday after the results for Kelantan was finalised.

In the vice presidential race, where there are four positions available, the frontrunners in Selangor I are Nurul Izzah (8,063 votes), Xavier Jayakumar (6,763 votes), Zuraida Kamaruddin (6,699 votes) and S Kesavan (5,321 votes).

Trailing behind the top four in Selangor I are Tian Chua (5,283), Shamsul Iskandar (5,070), William Leong (4,835), Johari Abdul (4,381), K Vasantha (3,391), Balasubramaniam (1,605), Michael Tamil (1,596) and Azan Ismail (1,186).

For the overall tally, the top four are now Nurul Izzah (31,599 votes), Zuraida (24,650), Xavier (19,926) and Tian Chua (19,250).

Behind them in terms of overall tally are Shamsul (18,725), Johari (15,843), Leong (15,700), Kesavan (14,695), Vasantha (8,898), Azan (5,719), Balasubramaniam (4,330) and Michael (3,639).

For the PKR Youth chief race, Azmin's allies Afif Bahardin (1,876 votes) and Hilman Idham (2,318) are ahead in the position for chief and deputy chief respectively in the Selangor I race.

Afif's rivals were Akmal Nasir (1,725 votes) and Najwan Halimi (465) while Hilman's opponents were Raymond Ahuar (906) and Naqiuddin Nazrin (445).

In terms of overall tally, Afif is ahead with 6,607 votes to Akmal (6,421) and Najwan (1,581) while Hilman is ahead with 8,300 votes to Ahuar (3,680) and Naqiuddin (1,559).

Haniza leads in Wanita PKR race

In the Wanita PKR race, Azmin's allies Haniza Talha (photo) and Daroyah Alwi also garnered the most votes in Selangor I.

Haniza got 3,696 votes to Fuziah Salleh's 2,746 votes while Daroyah got 3,757 votes to Rodziah Ismail's 2,570 votes in Selangor I.

For the overall tally, Haniza now commands 11,072 votes to Fuziah's 8,702 votes while Daroyah has 11,120 votes to Rodziah's 7,750 votes.

Selangor will be voting over three weekends due to the state's large voter base, comprising around a third of total PKR membership.

Six more divisions in Selangor will go to the polls on Oct 21 in the second round of voting for the state while another six will go vote in the third round on Oct 28.

The results for Selangor I is not yet finalised, pending confirmation of "doubtful votes".

Doubtful votes are by voters whose name do not appear in the PKR electoral roll.

Their votes are counted separately and must go through a verification process to determine if the voter is a genuine eligible PKR member.

To date, the other states that have already voted are Penang, Johor, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Federal Territories. The results for the first three states on the list have also been finalised.

With the conclusion of the first round of voting in Selangor, there is still 62 percent of votes left up for grabs until Nov 10.

This includes the states of Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Sabah and Sarawak.
