Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng is an “expert in selling assets”, according to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak.

However, Najib also claimed that the DAP secretary-general is not all that “intelligent” with regard to this.

“When he (Lim) was chief minister of Penang, he sold a lot of land, land rights and state government shares to show a budget surplus every year, although the state government's yearly expenditure increased more than three to four times during those 10 years.

“As far as selling assets, (Lim) is not all that intelligent,” he added in a Facebook posting this morning.

Najib, who was also finance minister under the former BN government, had expressed concern over Putrajaya's plan to sell government land as well as the assets of Khazanah Nasional and Pemodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB).

He said while the government is doing this based on the “excuse” of settling the national debt inherited from his administration, Najib, however, blamed Pakatan Harapan's populist measures for the financial conundrum.

He also reiterated his stand that the national debt is not at RM1 trillion as claimed by Harapan leaders.

In another posting, Najib also trained his guns on Lim's political aide and Damansara lawmaker Tony Pua.

“It has been a long time since we have heard from Pua. He suddenly emerges with a valid suggestion, asking the people to take Grab instead of the MRT feeder bus. He says it saves money.

“If everything is done to save money for the government, when would the rakyat be able to save? Oh, perhaps when the third national car project is underway,” Najib added on a sarcastic note.
