MACC has detained Baling lawmaker Abdul Azeez Rahim's son, less than two hours after Azeez, the former Tabung Haji chairperson, was freed on bail.

According to a source, the 24-year-old suspect was arrested at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya about noon today, after being summoned for questioning.

The source claimed that the suspect is believed to be a proxy for his father.

“He was like a 'runner' in the transferring of bribe money involving contractors,” the source added.

It is understood that MACC will be filing a remand application for Azeez's son at the magistrate's court in Putrajaya tomorrow morning.

On May 23, MACC seized RM500,000 in cash and RM1.2 million in various currencies from houses belonging to Azeez (photo).

Bernama later reported that the raids were to facilitate investigations into the appointment of contractors involving Tabung Haji projects.

Azeez and his brother were originally remanded for four days after their arrests by the anti-graft body on Sept 25, along with their cousin Mohamed Nazri.

The remand order was later extended to another six days, while Nazri was released on a bail of RM10,000 with two sureties.

All three are being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act 2009 to facilitate investigations pertaining to soliciting or receiving gratification.
