LETTER |

Though the regime has been changed on the day of 509,
The relentless whirlpools would still,
Take place in our country,
As long as the shackles of racial and religious politics,
Are not thoroughly released.

Though we know Harapan performed well in the past by-elections,
Nobody is going to be ignorant of,
The threat of the incitement to the politics of hatred,
Particularly if there is scheme,
To create the landscape where Harapan leaders are equal to the liberal villains.

Though I appreciate what Siti Kasim and Zaid Ibrahim spoke recently,
I also understand that our politicians are as always,
Bound by the ‘utilitarian’ politics.
How many of them would dare to challenge against considerable conservatives,
For the sake of fighting for rights of the minorities such as LGBTs?

Though unity is said to be good in many ways,
I feel ‘divide’ could somehow bring benefits too,
If the subject matter of ‘divide’ in our country is,
For example ‘Economics versus Environment’,
Rather than the endless debates of ‘Secularism versus Religion-Based Politics’.

Though I might be labelled as one of the ‘super liberals’,
I don’t think merely with the removal of race and religion-based parties,
Our shackles could be fully released.
Then how about if starting from today,
We try to divert the attention and create our own version of ‘divide’?
