MAA: Vehicle sales rose 26pct during tax holiday
ADS

Malaysia’s vehicle sales rose 26.8 percent to 65,551 units in August 2018 from 51,716 units in the same month last year.

In a statement today, the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) attributed the higher vehicle sales to the reduction in prices due to the zero-rated goods and services tax.

It said out of the total vehicles sold, 55,772 units were passenger vehicles, while the rest were commercial vehicles.

The association said production increased to 47,387 vehicles in August 2018 from 43,688 in the same month last year.

Meanwhile, MAA expects a lower sales volume in September this year compared to August as many of the purchases had been concluded before the end of the GST tax holiday period.
