A top BN-linked lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was nabbed by MACC officers at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Selangor at 6am this morning.

The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today heard that Shafee was then brought to the MACC office in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur for processing.

Following this, he was brought to the court at 11.20am.

Prosecutors told the court that Shafee was about to board a plane to Penang.

At about noon, charges were formally laid against Shafee.

He then pleaded not guilty to two counts of receiving proceeds from illegal activities amounting to RM9.5 million.

The sum was alleged to have originated from former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak in two transactions in 2013 and 2014.

Shafee was also charged with two counts of failing to declare the monies to the Inland Revenue Board in 2015.

Shafee is currently leading the defence team for Najib, who is facing money laundering and corruption charges pertaining to RM42 million found in the latter's bank accounts.

The money was alleged to have come from a Finance Ministry-linked company known as SRC International Sdn Bhd.
