BALAKONG POLLS | The Education Ministry will study the proposal to build another 10 Chinese vernacular schools (SJKC), bringing the total to 26 of proposed SJKC being under review.

Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said apart from the proposal to build 10 new SJKC and to allocate another six to more populous areas, she has discovered there were 10 more proposed SJKC that were still pending.

“When I took office, I found that there were 10 more SJKC promised by the previous government between 2012 to 2017.

“So, it is not just 10 plus six. It is actually 10 plus six plus 10. We are in the midst of deciding which one is more urgent and should be implemented first,” she said in the Pakatan Harapan ceramah for Balakong by-election at Sg Chua last night.

In October last year, the BN administration had approved and announced the construction of ten new Chinese primary schools while another six would be allocated to more populous areas.

On another note, Teo said MCA can learn from DAP on how to embrace its new role as opposition effectively.

She said MCA must be daring and willing to acknowledge the wrongdoing by the previous administration, including in the multi-million ringgit 1MDB scandal.

“Don't just dare to criticise DAP and Pakatan Harapan. MCA should have exposed the 1MDB scandal when they were still the government.

“But even now as opposition, they choose to keep silent,” she told the crowd.

Meanwhile, Selangor State Assembly speaker Ng Suee Lin who took the stage also had the crowd in stitches when he said that one of the characteristics of effective opposition leaders was their willingness to serve a jail term.

Citing DAP leaders, such as Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng and the late Karpal Singh, Ng said they had all been imprisoned several times by BN government for standing up to their principles when DAP was in the opposition.
