PARLIAMENT | Twelve new senators will be sworn in next Monday, 11 of whom are from Pakatan Harapan. The other is from Parti Warisan Sabah.

This will raise the number of Dewan Negara members to 67, with three more vacancies left.

Harapan will still not be able to command the majority in the Senate despite the new appointments. Of the current 55 senators, 32 are from BN and three from PAS.

Among those to be sworn in, four are from DAP – the party's Penang secretary Lim Hui Ying, Perak committee member Nga Hock Cheh, Sarawak secretary Alan Ling and Sabah education director Adrian Banie Lasimbang.

The new senators from PKR are former Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff, party election committee secretary Ismail Yusof, Bera division vice-chief Monalan Mohamad and former Lumut MP Mohamad Imran Abd Hamid.

Amanah's two are vice-president Husam Musa and central committee member Raj Munni Sabu.

Meanwhile, Warisan's Theodore Douglas Lind, a senior lawyer from Sabah, will represent the party in the Upper House.

Gelang Patah Bersatu chief Nasir Hashim will be the party's sole senator.

Both Hui Ying, the sister of Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, and Yusmandi were appointed by the Penang state legislative assembly.

Whereas Nga and Ismail were appointed by the Perak state legislative assembly.

Last week, the Dewan Negara had passed the repeal of the Goods and Services Tax Bill (SST) as well as the bills on the Sales and Services Tax (SST) after BN senators gave in.

The House is expected to debate on the Anti-Fake News (Repeal) Bill 2018, Supply (Reallocation of Appropriated Expenditure) Bill 2018, Land Public Transport Commission (Repeal) Bill and Land Public Transport (Amendment) Bill 2018.
