Crocs captured by Sabah Wildlife Dept to be auctioned off

The Wildlife Rescue Unit of the Sabah Wildlife Department has captured two crocodiles in separate locations within three days following public complaints on the presence of the reptiles in their area.

Sabah Wildlife Department Public Relation Officer Siti Nur'ain Ampuan Acheh said the first crocodile, measuring eight feet 11in, was a female crocodile and was captured on July 26 at Kampung Sungai Anak.

The second, a 10ft nine-inch male crocodile was captured at Kelly Bay Resort on July 29, he said, adding that the reptiles were then brought to the Rescue Centre in Potuki for a health check and safekeeping.

"The crocodiles will be sold through public auction on August 6,” she said in a statement today.

She said the starting price for the 10-foot crocodile would be RM1,000 while the eight-foot crocodile at RM650, with bidding to start at 11.30am.
