PARLIAMENT | Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Liew Vui Keong said Najib Abdul Razak had received the redelineation report for Sabah when he was the prime minister under the BN government but did not table it in Parliament.

He said this in a parliamentary written reply to Maria Chin Abdullah (Independent - Petaling Jaya) who had asked what the new Pakatan Harapan government's stance was with regards to the report.

"As you may have been aware, the report was submitted to the former prime minister on Feb 21, 2017 in line with Section 8, Part II, the Thirteen Schedule of the Federal Constitution.

"The report is still not tabled in the Dewan Rakyat and it is now being considered by the Harapan government," he said.

The redelineation report for Sabah was completed ahead of the redelineation report for Peninsular Malaysia.

It was also approved by the Sabah state assembly.

However, the Sabah redelineation report never made it to Parliament.

Instead, the redelineation report for Peninsular Malaysia, which was completed later, was tabled in Parliament and approved on March 28.

Najib's opponents had speculated that the decision to hold back the redelineation exercise was due to Warisan’s growing influence in the east coast of Sabah, where many new seats would be added.

Harapan and Warisan managed to capture the Sabah government in the May 9 general election after the United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) defected from BN to join forces with the new ruling coalition.
