KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Khairy tells Umno to take the 'middle path'

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, in a series of tweets, warned that Umno will fail in 10 to 15 years if it refuses to take the "middle path" and continues to veer too much to the "right".

Earlier, Umno supreme council member Lokman Adam Mohd Noor said his NGO, Pemantau Malaysia Baru, will conduct a rally next Monday, with hands bounds and mouths taped shut, as a symbol of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong having lost his voice in Malay, Muslim related matters.

The Umno strategic communications team, in a statement, said the Pakatan Harapan government is behaving like a vacuum cleaner - bent on cleaning up the previous administration's wrongdoing, rather than prioritising the people's welfare.

Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said the Harapan government's admission that the zero-rating of GST was barely felt proved that the tax was not the cause of the rising cost of living, as claimed before.

He was responding to Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail who said the prices of goods have only dropped slightly, since the GST was zero-rated on June 1.

MP dangles RM100k carrot for Jho Low hunt

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said that the RM100,000 reward by an anonymous donor to secure the return of fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho is still in effect.

A report said that the hunt for Low, who is better known as Jho Low, is now purportedly focused on the West Indies, as he was believed to have taken refuge in Saint Kitts and Nevis islands, where he reportedly has citizenship.

A Chinese official meanwhile, told the South China Morning Post that Low, who is a central figure in the 1MDB scandal, is not hiding in mainland China.

Malaysiakini took a look on the relationship between Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former premier Najib Abdul Razak, who is also embroiled in the 1MDB fiasco, and the Lebanese jewellers who recently filed an RM60 million suit against her.

French ambassador to Malaysia Frédéric Laplanche said that French authorities were working well with their Malaysian counterpart in investigating the Scorpene submarines purchase, another scandal linked to Najib.
