Jeweller sues Rosmah

A Lebanese firm sued Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, after RM60 million worth of jewellery it sent to her for viewing were seized by police.

The government, which believes the jewellery were bought with stolen money, applied to intervene in the suit.

Rosmah's lawyers denied that she purchased any of the jewellery which the Lebanese firm had sent to her.

She also did not make any request for the seized jewellery to be returned, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said.

Macau's help sought to arrest Jho Low

Fuzi also revealed that Malaysia had put in a formal request for Macau to arrest businessperson Low Taek Jho, a key figure in the 1MDB scandal.

Macau police confirmed that it had received the request to arrest Jho Low.

However, they claimed that media statements from the Malaysian police were "not in line with the facts", but did not elaborate further.

The Swiss attorney-general visited his Malaysian counterpart and revealed that his office is probing six people for suspected bribery of foreign officials in relation to the 1MDB case.

Former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner, a key figure in putting together bonds for 1MDB that were misappropriated, will reportedly cooperate with US investigators.

Spotlight on Harapan's choice of speaker

Pakatan Harapan is expected to nominate Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul as the new speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.

Former civil servants group G25 said it was deeply concerned with the choice of Johari, given the “express partisanship” of his former role as PKR parliamentary whip.

Former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan proposed nominating former judges for the speaker’s post, saying that this would help to restore the dignity of Parliament.

Umno is considering ditching the BN logo for the Sungai Kandis by-election in favour of its own logo.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad reportedly thwarted attempts by some ministers to appoint large numbers of special officers to reward their supporters.
