The law must be allowed to take its course in the graft trial of former premier Najib Abdul Razak, PAS said today.

In a statement, party secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this should encompass all institutions and levels, such as the judiciary, the public, as well as the media.

"In this matter, PAS strongly holds on to the concept of 'innocent until proven guilty'. Thus, the burden of proof against the accused is on the prosecution, and the court should act without fear or favour.

"PAS hopes that justice against the former prime minister will follow the rule of law and will be respected and upheld by everyone, at all times," Takiyuddin stressed, further cautioning against influencing public perception and a trial by media.

"Whatever the verdict of this trial may be, PAS hopes that it will contribute positively, towards the betterment of the society."

Najib was earlier today charged with three counts of criminal breach of trust and a fourth count of abuse of power, regarding RM42 million purportedly from SRC International found in his personal account.

He claimed trial to all four charges, and was let off on RM1 million bail with two sureties.  The court also ordered him to surrender his two passports.
