Najib is expected to face more than 10 charges in relation to transactions involving SRC International, a former 1MDB subsidiary.

The MACC also grilled his stepson Riza Aziz, who investigators believe is a beneficiary of allegedly misappropriated 1MDB funds.

In an interview with Malaysiakini, Najib said that following Pakatan Harapan's relentless campaign against him, the government had no choice but to press the charges.

Najib, through his spokesperson, also claimed that the imminent charges against him are politically motivated.

After being grilled by the MACC, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that a welfare foundation's funds were used to pay his credit card debts by mistake, and that he has repaid the money in full.

MACC chief Mohd Shukri Abdull said those whose bank accounts were frozen for allegedly receiving misappropriated 1MDB funds should return the money.

Shukri also demanded that Low Taek Jho returns to Malaysia, and added that the commission has no plan to question the 1MDB-linked businessperson overseas.
