KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Umno reforms fizzle

The Umno supreme council election saw the majority of old guards being retained while rebels were punished.

Analysts believe that reforms in Umno will likely take a back seat with Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the Umno president now.

Zahid said he will be meeting with PAS to decide on the new opposition leader.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's reiteration that Malays would be bastardised (terbangsat) with Umno losing power is a sign that the party intends to return to extremist politics.

Khairy Jamaluddin, who was defeated by Zahid for the position of Umno president, said the party poll was flawed and favoured warlords.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said Pakatan Harapan will not work with Umno, regardless of who its leader is.

MACC summons Zahid over 1MDB probe

The MACC summoned Zahid to assist in the 1MDB investigation.

The Immigration Department denied that Zahid had been barred from leaving the country.

PAS vice-president Iskandar Samad claimed police seizure of cash and luxury goods amounting up to RM1.1 billion from properties linked to Najib was to divert from Harapan's alleged "failures".

Najib's special officer who was arrested in relation to the 1MDB probe was freed on a bail of RM20,000 with one surety.

Umno loses third MP

Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin quit Umno, lamenting that the party was still in denial by having voted for the old guard in the Umno party election. She did not contest any position.

Newly minted Wanita Umno chief Noraini Ahmad challenged MPs quitting Umno to resign as elected representatives and pave the way for by-elections.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the move by a 41-year-old Kelantanese man to wed an 11-year-old child is illegal.

However, the man was adamant that he will not give up his 11-year-old "wife", who is his third.

Other Kinibites

The Prime Minister's Department will reportedly undergo a major overhaul with several key entities to be placed under Parliament.

Kota Melaka MP Khoo Poay Tiong urged the federal government to emulate the Malacca government, which has recognised the United Examination Certification for entry into the civil service.

Bersatu Youth urged those lobbying for PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to be appointed into the government not to engage in friendly fire with its coalition partners.

Movement for Change Sarawak leader Francis Paul Siah said he had previously lodged an MACC complaint against Sarawak governor Abdul Taib Mahmud and hoped action would be taken.

Penang Amanah chief Mujahid Yusof Rawa, who is expected to become a minister in the Prime Minister's Department and put in charge of Islamic Affairs, said he hopes for a national policy where Malays would see themselves as Malaysians first.

Looking ahead

Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali will attend the launching of the latest World Bank Economic Monitor Report.

China officials are expected to brief the Council of Eminent Persons.

Zahid will be questioned by the MACC in Putrajaya.
