Selangor BN is expected to name one of its four state-assemblypersons to fill the position of opposition leader which has been vacated since December 2014, according to a report.

Umno Online quoted Sungai Air Tawar assemblyperson Rizam Ismail who said he was informed by Selangor BN leadership that he was among those named as a potential candidate for the post.

"As of now there has been no official decision," said Rizam after attending the official swearing-in ceremony for all Selangor state-assemblypersons during the first meeting of the first session of the 14th state assembly yesterday.

Selangor BN which led the opposition bench since the 12th general elections did not appoint a replacement for Sungai Burong assemblyperson Mohd Shamsudin Lias who vacated the post in 2014 out of dissatisfaction with the composition of the state's Public Accounts Committee.

Commenting further, Rizam said that if elected to the post, he would strive to ensure that all BN elected representatives played their role as an effective opposition to check and balance the Pakatan Harapan state administration.

Asked whether BN would cooperate with PAS sole representative, Sijangkang assemblyperson Ahmad Yunus Hairi, Rizam said they will initiate a good relationship based on demands of the people in Selangor.

Selangor BN recorded its worst performance so far in GE14 after being left with only four state-assemblypersons, down from 12 in GE13 and 18 in GE12.

PAS, on the other hand, was decimated and left with a single representative, down from 12 in GE13 and eight in GE12.
