The heat is rising on the 1MDB scandal, with former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said meeting with the MACC regarding the embattled state fund's predecessor Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA), today. 

Ahmad reached the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya about 9.30am, in an Audi, accompanied by a male family member. 

Speaking to reporters later in the afternoon, Ahmad said he had come to meet MACC on his own volition and had explained to investigators, pertaining to a 17-page document on the deal, in an interview that started about 11am. 

"I validated what was true and denied what was not, in the documents shown to me," he said, without divulging further details, as it would jeopardise investigations. 

Ahmad also said that he was willing to meet MACC again on the matter. 

He denied that his appearance in MACC had anything to do with him running for the vice-president's post in Umno in the party's upcoming elections. 

"It has nothing to do with the contest. All I have to say is we have to have integrity and be transparent in all that we do, even if it comes at the expense of sacrificing positions and such."

Three years ago, Ahmad had revealed that TIA had tried to use Terengganu's oil and gas assets as collateral, way back in 2008.

TIA was renamed as 1MDB in 2009 after it was taken over by Putrajaya.

Ahmad revealed that due to numerous problems, the state government under his helm had to pull out of the deal, and this angered the then prime minister, Najib Abdul Razak.

According to him, Terengganu did not suffer any losses and it succeeded in getting back its RM1 million capital.

Ahmad was removed from office in 2014 and he momentarily quit Umno, allegedly because he was forced to quit just before his daughter's wedding.
