Met Malaysia issues bad weather warning in several states

Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Perlis and Kedah tonight until 8pm.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (Met Malaysia) in a statement listed the affected areas in Kedah as Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Pendang and Sik.

Meanwhile, Met Malaysia also issued an alert on strong Southwesterly winds of 40-50 km/ph with waves up to 3.5 metres over the waters of Perlis, Kedah and Penang until Tuesday (June 19).

The strong winds and rough seas were dangerous to small crafts, recreational sea activities and water sports, the statement warned.

The department also issued a second category warning for shipping activities due to the strong Southwesterly winds of 50-60 km/ph with waves up to 4.5m over the waters of Phuket and Samui, for the same duration.

The strong winds and rough seas are dangerous to all shipping and coastal activities including fishing and ferry services.

Met Malaysia also issued a thunderstorm warning over the states of Kedah (Langkawi), Negeri Sembilan (Tampin), Malacca and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat and Muar). Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over the affected areas.
