Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah dropped the strongest hint yet that he may challenge Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the party presidency.

In a veiled swipe at Zahid for meeting Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Tengku Razaleigh said he won't go crawling to Mahathir.

He also insisted that Mahathir, who in the past was accused of being authoritarian, was still the same person but in different clothing.

On the future of Umno, Tengku Razaleigh said he was against opening  the party to non-Malays.

Young Johor Umno leaders have also begun endorsing Tengku Razaleigh in a bid to oust Zahid.

Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said she is reconsidering sitting out of the Umno election following a lobbying effort for her to contest a vice-president's post.

Another billion ringgit controversy involving ex-PM

Najib Abdul Razak allegedly instructed an RM1.25 billion solar project for rural schools to be awarded to a BN-linked company when he was prime minister.

Education Minister Maszlee Malik said stern action had been taken over the matter and will announce the details today.

Former federal court judge Gopal Sri Ram claimed that Daim Zainuddin, a member of the Council of Eminent Persons, had met with the chief justice and Court of Appeal president to ask them to resign.

DAP's Bukit Gelugor Ramkarpal Singh expressed concern that the meeting may cause the perception of judicial interference.

Syed Saddiq ticks off Harapan

Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman ticked off Pakatan Harapan for allegedly abusing government machinery by displaying its logo at an Agriculture Ministry event.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad warned that any hasty attempt to charge Najib over the 1MDB matter could see him go free.

He also said, in an apparent jibe against Yayasan 1MDB, that the government would no longer sponsor haj trips on stolen money.

Umno supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin said his party must learn from the previous opposition by hurling accusations "without fear of legal consequences".

In response, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said that was not how Harapan operated when it was the opposition and doing so would condemn Umno to be the opposition for eternity.
