KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Apandi’s warning to the new AG

Dismissed attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali congratulated his replacement Tommy Thomas - and warned that taking up the “hot seat” would be no walk in the park.

Asked about his reaction to being sacked, Apandi sent Malaysiakini an image of an inspirational quote, which reads “Everything is going to be okay in the end.”

Thomas himself dubbed his new role an “awesome responsibility”.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail gave her assurance that Thomas' appointment would not undermine constitutionally protected Malay and Muslim interests.

The appointment drew varying reactions from the opposition, with Umno Youth saying that it showed DAP was controlling Pakatan Harapan, and MCA praising the Agong’s “inner steel”.

Rosmah questioned by MACC

Rosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, was questioned by the MACC over funds from 1MDB subsidiary SRC International ending up in her husband’s personal accounts.

Earlier, she appointed a new defence team to accompany her to the MACC, after two lawyers who previously represented her pulled out.

Najib was asked to answer for two pipeline projects undertaken by Suria Strategic Energy Resources (SSER) – due to most of the RM9.4 billion already being paid out despite little actual work being carried out.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng revealed that he has documents that prove SSER was linked to 1MDB.

Lim also told Malaysiakini in an interview that sweeping for “time bombs” in the Finance Ministry, previously helmed by Najib, is causing him sleepless nights.

Other Kinibites

In a WhatsApp audio recording, at-large Umno leader Jamal Md Yunos said it is a waste of time for the government to seek Interpol's help to track him down, as his crimes are minor.

Bloomberg reported that Bank Negara governor Muhammad Ibrahim has offered to resign, amid allegations that the central bank overpaid for a plot of land to help repay 1MDB’s debts.

Former MIC president S Samy Vellu was admitted in the National Heart Institute after a bout of vomiting.

Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil announced that she will not defend her post in the coming party elections.

A Pakatan Harapan source told Malaysiakini that there will be a total of 28 cabinet ministers in Dr Mahathir Mohamad's administration, including the 13 who were recently sworn in.

Looking ahead

Mahathir will hold a press conference after chairing the weekly cabinet meeting.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim will meet the party’s lawmakers at the One World Hotel in Petaling Jaya.
