The newly-formed Council of Eminent Persons will not call former Felda chairpersons Mohd Isa Abdul Samad and Shahrir Samad to give an explanation on issues surrounding the plantation body, says Daim Zainuddin.

“Not necessary. We already called their officers and board of directors. We had a complete picture,” the council chairperson told a press conference at his office in Kuala Lumpur today.

Earlier, he met National Felda Settlers' Children Association (Anak) chairman Mazlan Aliman.

The council was also briefed by Felda’s former director-general, Hanapi Suhada, Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd chairperson Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim and Felcra Bhd CEO, Zulkarnain Mohd Eusope.

Daim said over the past six days, his council had 40 meetings and met 50 individuals from different backgrounds, namely senior government officers, government-linked companies, non-governmental organisations and the corporate sector.

“We talked and discussed few topics, among others on tolls, Felda, Felcra, the East Coast Railway Link (ECRL) and the KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail Link,” he added.

On the status of fugitive businessman Jho Low who is linked to the 1MDB scandal, Daim said the council was aware of his whereabouts.

“I hope he will come back and assist us if he thinks he is innocent. The rule is simple, innocent until proven guilty,” he said. - Bernama
