GE14 | Caretaker Pahang menteri besar Adnan Yaakob, who will be contesting for an eighth term in the 14th general election, imparted his wisdom to fellow BN contenders on what makes a good elected representative - which includes not trying to score free mee goreng or cigarettes from constituents.

"When you win, serve the people. It's not hard to be an elected representative. It's just attending village, parent-teachers association and surau meetings and being at kenduri (celebrations). It's not a hard job.

"After a tiring week, we can go off to Kuala Lumpur for two weeks. People won't be angry. We can come back in two weeks. If we have money, we give.

"(But there are those) who swipe people's cigarettes, money and even refuse to pay for their mee goreng (fried noodles). How will people not be angry?

"Instead, it should be we that bring cigarettes and offer to people. Bring a case of cigarettes," said Adnan, who joked about causing lung cancer.

Adnan gave the word of advice shortly before announcing Pahang BN's candidates for the 14th general election at a ceremony in Kuantan.

Adnan, who has held the Pelangai since 1986, will be defending the state seat for the eighth term.

He has been Pahang menteri besar since 1999.

In the last general election, Adnan garnered 6,245 votes in Pelangai to PAS' 3,770 votes.
