Sinar Harian has corrected a report that cited PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang as stating that his party was "neutral" with regard to the 1MDB scandal.

In a statement today, the Malay daily said it regretted the error and would be more careful in future.

The report in question, which appeared on Sinar Harian's website, was initially titled: "PAS ambil pendekatan berkecuali isu 1MDB" (PAS takes a neutral approach on 1MDB).

The present headline reads: "1MDB: Jangan terus hukum" (1MDB: Do not be hasty to judge).

In a statement earlier today, Hadi's aide Abdul Malik Razak accused the daily of attempting to slander his boss, noting that its headline had been amended twice.

Malik also provided a transcript to prove that the word "berkecuali" (neutral) was not uttered by Hadi during a dialogue session in Shah Alam yesterday, where a question on 1MDB was posed.

Abdul Malik said that although the report had been amended, the damage was already done.

"People are likely to believe the first article, which contained the slanderous remarks... leading to Pakatan Harapan supporters criticising the PAS president.

"The first article was intentionally meant to draw visitors to their website," he said.

Hadi had told the dialogue session that Islam does not allow one to condemn another without proof.
