GE14 | The police have identified certain individuals who are bent on creating chaos during the general election, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today.

"I know there are those who want to create last minute surprises. We have identified the individuals and we know which bloc will cause provocation.

"I know. We know who they are. This is not a warning. This is not a warning. This is not a warning.

"Action will definitely be taken on the individuals or organisations who spring last-minute surprises during the elections," Bernama reported him as saying after a meeting with police personnel in Kuala Lumpur.

Although repeatedly insisting that he was not issuing a warning, Zahid eventually did warn potential troublemakers to desist.

"I would like to warn political parties, do not provoke the police. Don't try to cause problems anywhere.

"The police have identified (potential troublemakers) and have a list of hotspots. They have identified the surprise locations," he was quoted as saying.

The home minister also reminded the police not to provoke any quarters, and to prioritise peace and public order when carrying out their duties.

“Ensuring peace and public order is something invaluable. In operations, avoid using tear gas. Do not fire water cannons unless the situation really warrants it.

However, he expressed hope that the upcoming elections would be held peacefully and smoothly.

Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has repeatedly claimed that BN would resort to emergency rule to cling on to power if it loses the elections by a small margin.
