The MACC has detained a business development manager of a Terengganu government subsidiary, his wife, three family members and two proxies for alleged abuse of power and corruption involving about RM5.4 million.

According to a MACC source, the 59-year-old manager and the six were picked up at several locations in Terengganu and the federal capital today.

The source said preliminary investigations revealed the manager had given contracts and projects, between 2010 and 2017, to companies owned by his 52-year-old wife, two children aged 31 and 34, daughter-in-law aged 34 and the two proxies.

"He gives (a project) to a company whose director and shareholders were his wife and two children. The daughter-in-law who owns another company was also given a project," he said.

Projects were also given to the two proxies, both 40, who owned companies.
The companies had failed to implement some projects but had made payment claims, the source said.

The source added that the Terengganu government-owned subsidiary was into management and provided training and expertise in certain areas.

Meanwhile, MACC investigation department senior director Simi Abdul Ghani confirmed the arrests.

He said the investigation team had gone to several locations in Terengganu, including the manager's house in Kemaman to seize case-related documents.

"The suspects are expected to be remanded tomorrow," said Simi, adding that the case was investigated under Section 18 and 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
