The Cabinet Committee on Indian Community (CCIC) aims to increase the involvement of Indians in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to seven percent, compared to the current 1.6 percent, said CCIC executive committee chairperson Dr S Subramaniam.

“We will launch a special programme, in collaboration with the ATM, to boost army intake among the Indian community,” he told the media after chairing the executive committee CCIC meeting for the Malaysian Indian Blueprint here today.

Subramaniam, who is also health minister, said through the committee that was led by Deputy Youth and Sports Minister M Saravanan, a "risk assessment tool" programme would also be conducted to identify the cause for Indian students to be highly involved in social ills.

“After identifying the groups and what motivates their involvement in social ills, we will carry out an intervention program to ensure that they would not continue their involvement,” he explained.

The meeting also decided that a committee led by Deputy Federal Territories Minister Dr Loga Bala Mohan would be set up to address housing issues faced by the low-income group in the Indian community.
