Yoursay: Why would Harapan waste a future PM on Johor push?

YOURSAY | 'Don't take the risk of running in JB, Nurul Izzah.'

Zaid wants Nurul Izzah to slay southern giant in GE14

Quigonbond: There are pros and cons to this proposal. Sending PKR vice-president and Lembah Pantai MB Nurul Izzah Anwar to Johor Bahru will certainly create buzz and strengthen Pakatan Harapan’s push to take over the state.

In terms of weightage, I would think that Lembah Pantai and Johor Bahru are probably about equal.

If she slays another BN big-timer in Lembah Pantai, she is already a heavyweight. There is no need for her to prove herself in Johor Bahru.

Besides, why parachute her there when she's made Lembah Pantai her home for two terms? Lembah Pantai has a mix of rich and poor constituents, it's an accurate reflection of her national political leadership if she can secure a win.

Clever Voter: Nurul Izzah the giant killer is well-liked by constituents from the more affluent part of Lembah Pantai. With the expected electoral transfer of police officers, Nurul Izzah’s chances of retaining her seat will receive an immediate setback.

But Johor Bahru is not for her. She should move to either Batu (currently held by Tian Chua) or Pandan (currently held by Rafizi Ramli). Nurul Izzah represents the next generation of future leaders. She is the future of the nation.

Awang Top: With millions apparently having been pumped into Lembah Pantai by the other side, Nurul is going into the battlefield with one hand tied behind her back.

Judging from the last election result, the Malay votes are predictably moving towards Umno. Politically, she should move to Permatang Pauh.

Steven For Malaysia: Nurul Izzah is prime minister material.

Yes, with the Election Commission (EC) collaborating with the devils, I am not sure if Lembah Pantai will still be a fair battleground for her. Harapan should value her potential and place her in a safer constituency.

I am a Johor Bahru resident and given that Johor will be the frontline state for Harapan in coming general election, it could be a jolt and morale booster to place her in Tebrau or Johor Bahru.

In view of the relationship between Umno and the EC, it is not fair to insist Nurul must go to a Malay-majority constituency – because the battleground is already not fair to begin with.

Proarte: Nurul Izzah should prove her worth, rather than hanging on to the coattails of her father.

If her support in Lembah Pantai is waning, then she should share some responsibility for it. Running to a safe seat damages her credibility and standing.

Generals lead from the front and not treat soldiers under them as cannon fodder. A true leader does not abandon a sinking ship.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang took on the former menteri besar of Johor in Gelang Patah, and demolished him. Nurul Izzah, who is a senior PKR leader, cannot expect a free ride for her own benefit. She must take on difficult seats and prove her worth.

Johor Bahru, since PKR has claimed it, must field a senior PKR leader there in order to have a good chance to win it. Putting someone in PKR without any visibility or stature is wasting the opportunity to expand into Johor.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Nurul Izzah will win in any constituency if there is fair play. Despite all the gerrymandering, I think she can easily beat incumbent Johor Bahru MP Shahrir Abdul Samad, hands down.

Azmin: No more tolerating PAS in Selangor

Sixth Generation Immigrant: Three items for Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to think about in order to temper his own self-belief and prove he is a team player.

The sentence "I have tolerated them for some time…" should have started with “Harapan...”. And with this sentence, "The opposition’s hunting ground is no longer limited to urban constituencies...", Azmin shows he is still thinking small.

Instead, he should think positive before going into war. He is, after all, prime minister material, in the same vein as PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, more so than other Harapan heavyweights like Lim Guan Eng, Mohamad Sabu, Rafizi Ramli, Khalid Samad and Tony Pua.

If he can start thinking on a national level, the nation will start thinking of him (as prime minister) too.

Hamzah Paiman: After all the damage done to the opposition, he finally decides to part ways with PAS. If this had been done much earlier, Harapan would have been in a much stronger position. His position and leadership would have been unquestionable.

Anonymous 2436471476414726: Better late than never, Azmin. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang cannot be trusted. They should have been shown the door a long time ago.

Anonymous_1388029052: What needs to happen now is that the PAS seats in Selangor must be given to Amanah to contest and make sure that all the so-called Islamic party candidates lose their deposits.

Francis_14a3: Yes, have faith and believe in Amanah. Everything will be all right in Selangor without PAS. If they were still there, Harapan would surely lose a big chunk of Chinese vote in the coming election.

Headhunter: Told you so, Azmin.

Unspin: It is quite sad to note that even though Azmin is now saying the right thing with regard to PAS, a lot of people remain sceptical. People have serious trust issues when it comes to him.

Can he be trusted, is he a Trojan horse, will he make a U-turn on PAS, etc? If Azmin is sincere, there is still time to rebuild his credibility - which by the way is not built in one day.

Red Hero: So Azmin has woken up regarding PAS, when most Selangorians were awake long ago. Now that he is awake, enough of wasting time.

Time to get working at the ground level, especially in Selangor’s rural heartlands.
