MCA has accused Lim Kit Siang of attempting to divert attention from the Penang undersea tunnel project and Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin's role in the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) project.

“Kit Siang is at it again. No wonder they say 'a leopard doesn't change its spots',” said party publicity spokesperson Ti Lian Ker.

“Unlike Kit Siang who is conceited and habitually puts MCA leaders down, we in MCA always wished him well and a speedy recovery from his recent surgery,” he added in a statement.

He was responding to the veteran politician's statement that Chinese New Year greeting videos by DAP leaders have garnered much more views than those featuring MCA's top leadership.

Ti said Kit Siang should focus on issues which concern the people such as the Penang tunnel and questioned the silence of other highly vocal DAP leaders on the issue.

He added that Kit Siang (photo) has also failed to respond to whether he had taken Muhyiddin to task over the NFC scandal now that the two are allies in Pakatan Harapan.

“...Talking about the viewership of Chinese New Year videos is an obvious attempt to divert (attention) from the bigger impending issues of NFC and the Penang tunnel.

“We all know that viewership can be propped up or paid for but viewership is not going to determine the next government or the survival of MCA or DAP,” he added.

Ti, who is also an MCA central committee member, said how DAP handles the tunnel issue would determine if Chinese voters are still with the party in the coming general election.

“Now is the litmus test to show whether Kit Siang and the other vocal DAP leaders were sincere and real in their concern for the people all this while,” he added.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin said that just because the NFC project was sealed during his tenure as agriculture minister, it does not mean that he is involved in the scandal.

As for the undersea tunnel, while BN leaders have accused the Penang state government of churning out “half-truths and outright lies”, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has maintained that the project's transactions were above board.

Lim has alleged that BN is attempting to sabotage the project, which he claimed is vital to address the state's traffic woes.
