Lim Kit Siang has highlighted how Chinese New Year greeting videos featuring DAP leaders have left their rivals trailing in terms of viewership.

Citing the MCA leadership's confidence of winning big in the coming general election, the veteran politician, however, said their videos failed to garner the viewership of DAP lawmaker Teresa Kok's latest offering.

“Whether the MCA will win big in GE14 will be known on polling day, but what is immediately known is that the MCA leadership's Chinese New Year video featuring the president Liow Tiong Lai, deputy president Wee Ka Siong and secretary-general Ong Ka Chuan – all three cabinet ministers – as well as the entire MCA national leadership is unable to garner the viewership of Kok's fifth annual Chinese New Year video.

“As at 1pm today, Kok’s CNY video (available on YouTube) netted 53,411 views in 25 hours since it was posted at 12.05pm on Feb 14 while the MCA leadership's CNY video netted 45,00 views after 41 hours after it was posted on Facebook on Feb 13 at 7.10pm,” he added in a statement.

Lim said there is also a similar trend in viewership with regard to the videos featuring his son and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Liow (photo).

“In fact, the margin has become wider.

“I had said that as at 8am yesterday, the respective responses garnered for Guan Eng and Liow's videos were as follows: Guan Eng’s CNY video (up for 60 hours) - Views 399k; Reactions: 21k (19k Like, 1.5k Love); Shares: 9,624. (Posted at 8pm on Feb 11)

“Liow's CNY video (93 hours) – Views 33k; Reactions: 1.1k (966 Like, 57 Love); Shares: 493. (Posted at 10.35am on Feb 10),” he noted.

In the last 30 hours, Lim said, there has been a greater disparity in the viewership between the two videos.

“Guan Eng's CNY video (up 89 hours) – Views 427k; Reactions 22k (20 Like, 1.6k Love); Shares: 10 k. Liow's CNY video (up 122 hours) – Views 36k; Reactions: 1.1k (1k Like, 59 Love); Shares 527,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lim said MCA, which would be celebrating its 69th anniversary on Feb 27, must not forget that its current leadership had created “new history”.

“For the first time, all the three most important leaders of MCA depend on Umno's votes to get elected as MPs and then to become a minister,” he added in reference to Liow, who will be defending his Bentong seat, Wee (Ayer Itam) seat and Ong (Tanjung Malim).

“In fact, Malay voters represent the largest ethnic group in six of the seven parliamentary constituencies won by MCA in the 13th general election.

“Is MCA representing the Chinese in BN or is it representing Umno to the Malaysian Chinese? Or is MCA representing all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion?” he asked.
