The MACC has given out more than RM30,000 as tokens of appreciation to Johor civil servants who reported cases of corruption involving the public.

Johor MACC director Azmi Alias said the offers of bribery were from 2013 to 2017, with 32 cases taken to court.

He said staff of the Customs Department, People’s Volunteer Corps, Islamic Religious Department, Immigration Department and the police were among the civil servants who reported the misconduct.

“The tokens of appreciation were given in accordance to the guidelines for acknowledgement to civil servants as directed by the chief secretary to the government on June 1, 2011.

“This is to encourage civil servants to report corrupt practices, thus eradicating the culture and cleansing the civil service of the crime of corruption and abuse of power,” he added.

Azmi was speaking to reporters after launching the Gempur Programme at the Johor Bahru City Council here today.

He said the programme was a continuation of the 3J anti-corruption campaign, “Jangan Hulur, Jangan Kawtim, Jangan Settle” (Don’t give and don’t settle).

“Previously, we focused on the public, this time we are focusing on civil servants, especially those in high-risk departments like enforcement, licensing and procurement,” he added.
