Wangsa Maju MP denies Ku Nan's claim he never serves constituency

Wangsa Maju MP Tan Kee Kwong has denied Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor's claim that the PKR lawmaker has "never been seen" in the constituency.

"No, it's no true. I don't only come there when it's election time.

"I'm there (in the Wangsa Maju constituency) almost every day, not just during the election (campaigning period).

"I take my job seriously, and I have a lot of photographic evidence to back this up," he told Malaysiakini.

Tengku Adnan at a programme in Danau Kota last night claimed Tan had never been seen in the area, and that the one who had always come to assist the locals was Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Mohd Shafei Abdullah, whom Tan defeated in the last general election with a 5,511-vote majority.

Apart from Tengku Adnan, several locals living in the Danau Kota Flat that Malaysiakini spoke to had agreed with his claim that Tan has "never been seen in the area."

"They will only come when it's election time. Until now we have never seen any programmes implemented by the (opposition), like they promised," local resident Sara Alias said.

DBKL blamed

Tan, however, insisted that support for the opposition in Danau Kota remains strong.

In photographs Tan sent to Malaysiakini, he can be seen mingling with locals in the Wangsa Maju constituency.

Earlier this month, Tan said he distributed oranges to locals living in Teratai Mewah and Lee Kong Chian village.

He also claimed the al-Ehsaniah surau in Danau Kota Flats received a donation from Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali, after pleading for the state to assist with upgrading works.

The PKR lawmaker blamed the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for lack of action over complaints.

"I asked DBKL to do their job and not politicise it. But when I liaise with them on constituency matters such as the problem of potholes, they just don't bother; they just ignore it.

"I want to remind them that they are paid to serve the rakyat and not BN," he said.
