Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's doctors have advised him to rest this weekend and hence his tour of Bentong tomorrow has been cancelled.

In a statement this evening, Bersatu’s Bentong division said Mahathir had to rest, but he has promised that he would hold the event in Bentong as soon as possible.

"Mahathir's health is our priority and he is in our prayers, as part of our mission to capture Putrajaya," Bentong Bersatu division said.

Mahathir was scheduled to visit Bentong town tomorrow evening before heading to the Mempaga Felda settlement for a ceramah.

Bentong is a parliamentary constituency represented by MCA president Liow Tiong Lai, who has condemned the former prime minister for passing critical comments on Putrajaya's business deals with China.

In 2013, Liow was able to defend his seat by just 379 votes against political greenhorn Wong Tack from DAP.

Despite his age, Mahathir, 93, has been busy criss-crossing the country for speaking engagements, many of which are held at night.

He underwent a coronary bypass in 1989 and again in 2007.

This is the third time, since July last year, that the 93-year-old politician has had to cancel political speaking engagements due to health reasons.

Last July, he had to pull out of a fundraising dinner in Kluang. In December, a minor illness kept him away from a ceramah in Ipoh.
