Police have called the CCTV footage allegedly showing model Ivana Esther Robert Smit’s final moments “circumstantial” and advised outside parties not to influence police investigations into her death.

According to The Star today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Mazlan Lazim said police are still analysing and scrutinising every aspect of the case, and it is premature to conclude anything about the 19-year-old’s death.

“We are conducting a professional investigation. We are still waiting for a few reports for further action,” Mazlan was reported as saying.

On Wednesday, Dutch lawyer acting for Smit's family Sebas Diekstra posted a screen capture of the footage on his Twitter page.

Diekstra said the image showed that an "American man" had carried Smit into a lift.

Smit was found dead at the foot of a condominium in Dang Wangi, Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian police have classified Smit's demise as "sudden death", but reopened investigations after the family alleged foul play.

Her family has since appointed British private investigator Mark Williams-Thomas to investigate the circumstances behind Smit's death.

William-Thomas said he believes that Smit was murdered while Dutch pathologist Frank van de Goot said there was evidence that she was dead before she fell to her death.
