CCTV footage from a Kuala Lumpur nightclub may have depicted Dutch model Ivana Smit's final moments.

Dutch lawyer Sebas Diekstra, who is acting for Smit's family, posted a screen-capture of the footage on his Twitter page yesterday.

Diekstra said the image showed that an "American man" had carried her into a lift.

According to the time-stamp on the video, the footage was recorded at 5.22am on Dec 7. Her unclothed body was found on the 6th floor of a Capsquare Residences balcony several hours later.

She was then reportedly staying with an American couple living on the 20th floor of the condominium in Kuala Lumpur.

Free Malaysia Today (FMT) posted another screen-capture, which the news portal claimed depicted an unidentified woman accompanying Smit and the man to the lift.

Malaysiakini cannot independently verify the claims made by either Diekstra or FMT.

FMT said it reached out to a spokesperson for Smit's family who said that she (Smit) appeared to be tipsy in the video clip and seemed to be flirting with the Caucasian man who was carrying her.

The spokesperson said the woman who trailed Smit and the man "appeared to be okay".

"The only thing we could deduce from this picture is that she left at 5.22am, and this establishes a very important timeline on how she might have died," the spokesperson told FMT.

The Malaysian police have classified Smit's demise as "sudden death" but reopened investigations after the family alleged foul play.

Her family has since appointed British private investigator Mark Williams-Thomas to investigate the circumstances behind Smit's death.

William-Thomas said he believes that Smit was murdered while Dutch pathologist Frank van de Goot said there was evidence that she was dead before she fell to her death.
