Approval for nine Rumah Selangorku projects has been revoked, according to the Selangor exco in charge of housing, building management and urban living, Iskandar Abdul Samad.

Iskandar said the decision was made during the Rumah Selangorku committee meeting, which he chaired, due to developers failing to obtain planning permission within two years of the approval date.

"The state government constantly monitors approved projects and take stern action against developers who are late to construct their Rumah Selangorku projects," he said in a statement today.

However, he said the government would take into consideration issues faced by the developers, such as legal issues, land steepness, and trespassing.

Rumah Selangorku is an initiative by the state government to provide affordable housing to Selangorians.

According to Iskandar, the revocation could also see the developers' planning permissions for other commercial projects frozen.

This is because the construction of Rumah Selangorku units is a condition for developers who want to build non-affordable housing for the open market.

"Under the current government, developers are not allowed to build the Rumah Selangorku later, but must do so together with their (non-affordable) units for the open market," he said.

Iskandar, who is also PAS's Chempaka assemblyperson, said in the past, low-cost housing was allowed to be built after, leading to certain developers not reneging their promises.
