PAS: Kelantan-Putrajaya ties better under Najib than Dr M
ADS

Kelantan's relationship with Putrajaya is far better under the administration of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak compared to during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's time in office, said deputy menteri besar Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

"It is really different compared to Mahathir and Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's time. Najib has made the relationship between Kelantan and the federal government better.

"But there are many things that the federal government has yet to implement, especially our demand for (oil) royalties, which we hope will be considered," Mohd Amar said when met by reporters in Kota Bharu today.

Last Sunday, Najib had said during his working visit to Kelantan said he would not torture the people of the state and leave them out of the national development.

Mohd Amar, however, took issue with Najib's comments that the state government relied on the federal government for funds.

"Selangor and Penang also depend on the federal government, and Selangor even has federal debt.

"For many agencies that are under federal jurisdiction, if the federal government doesn't help these agencies, (other) state governments can't function either," he said.

He added that the federal government also depends on the state government, especially when it comes to collecting taxes.

"So I don't think it's clever for a prime minister to raise this issue, that is part of the federalism concept that we have to understand," he said.
