Yoursay: In 2018, women still blamed for being sexual victims
ADS

YOURSAY | 'Stop singing this puritanical mantra. Go after the male maniacs.'

Sexual harassment: Union chief tells female reporters not to dress sexy

Royal Salute 21Y: Mohd Taufek Razak, as a head of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), you should be protecting your members and condemning the perpetrators, instead of harping on dress code.

By your reasoning, do most incest cases occur because daughters do not wrap themselves up like tents?

JD Lovrenciear: The NUJ chief should never travel overseas because the women there do not dress to his standards. Please, stop singing this puritanical mantra. Go charge the male maniacs first.

Anonymous 2460391489930458: As usual, it's the victim's fault. How do you define dressing which is considered "revealing" or "sexy"?

To some, the sight of a woman's calf is enough to make them go berserk. You can't expect women to wrap themselves up in sheets, can you?

Anonymous 444981488553970: At this rate, male politicians can only meet females with another person present if they can’t control themselves.

Anonymous 278451459939581: Taufek opens with an ultra-sexist comment about dress code for women journalists. I suppose ingrained cultural habits are hard to break.

There is no reason for women to dress "modestly." In any case, what does modestly actual mean? Burkini? Women dress to look good, men are attracted to good-looking women – it’s the natural way of things.

But on the other side of the coin, women should not make unsubstantiated claims, like what is happening in the Western entertainment industry, where an accusation is sufficient to bring someone down.

So much for innocent until proven otherwise.

Dr Patricia A Martinez: Putting the blame on women journalists for "dressing sexily" by advising them not to is outrageous.

It is no different from "the woman deserved to be raped because she wore a short skirt” when rape is about violence and power, and even grandmothers get raped.

Likewise, a woman journalist can be covered from head to toe, but a man can find her face or voice or demeanour attractive. Her fault? Oh, come on.

Anticonmen: Why not learn to respect women, minorities and the weak?

Probe politicians who sexually harass journalists, PKR urges cops

Carpe Diem: Not only journalists are harassed sexually with inappropriate and lewd talk and invitations.

Someone should do a survey on women teachers, for instance. My friends are regularly subjected to sexual harassment from politicians and little Napoleons, even married ladies are not spared.

Anonymous: Form a special investigation team led by women, give them full authority, beyond protecting the political masters.

Anonymous 13114320: I wonder who these male politicians are who have been accused of sexually harassing female journalists. Even if guilty, can anyone actually take action against them?

VGV: If a sexual harassment bill is passed as law, then chances are many lawmakers from the ruling party will make a beeline for the door.

Bring them to book, journalists. Speak up and unearth the culprits.

Female journalists recount sexual harassment from male politicians

HP Looi: Note, the sexual harassers came from both sides of the political divide, so we should not be too quick to jump to conclusions.

But yes, I certainly agree that sexual harassment awareness should be taken seriously, particularly by the so-called progressive opposition parties.

Cogito Ergo Sum: Unfortunately, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Most of the harassment incidents go unreported for fear of reprisals by the powers-that-be.

Bosses are reluctant to take action because there may be repercussions against their organisations. And should, in rare cases, reports are lodged, nothing happens.

In fact, there may be further reprisals. This is the culture we have bred and engendered over the years.

Roger 5201: This is unacceptable in our society, which is supposed to protect women from male predators like this. But why was “Ally,” the journalist in the story, put into this situation by her employers?

And more importantly, why is the politician behaving like an animal?

David Dass: The line must be clearly drawn as to what conduct is acceptable. Power corrupts in so many ways.

Politicians preach and pontificate and some commit dishonest and dishonourable acts. Employers push their staff to be accommodating to get stories. There must be zero tolerance for such behaviour.

What’s Up: These MPs only have two things in their heads: money and sex, as we have seen time and again their nonsensical utterances. Utterly useless - see how dire our country is with such lowlifes.

Susah Kes: And you thought the porn generation won't come in full circle? That in spite of the compulsory attendance in Pendidikan Moral classes at school, that it would shield the obvious heart of darkness of men?

#MeToo, dear.
