Negeri Sembilan PAS has lodged a police report against former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the latter's "kafir" remarks against the Islamist party.

According to PAS organ Harakah Daily, state party information chief Nasarudin

Baharudin lodged the report in Seremban on Wednesday night.

This is over alleged "slander" made by Mahathir, the Bersatu chairperson, at the party's annual general meeting last Saturday against PAS.

According to the report, Nasarudin said Mahathir's words could discourage people from joining PAS, and could give rise to "provocation, unease and threaten public order".

"He also made accusations that kafir had caused the tragedy of Memali
1985.

"(The statements are) reckless and false accusations contrary to the facts, saying that Ibrahim Libya was planning to use an armed insurrection to bring down the government," Nasarudin was reported as telling reporters after the report was made.

Nasaruddin added Mahathir's words were an alleged insult to public officers and a form of sedition that required immediate investigation.

This, he was reported as saying, was because his words could invite disharmony and arouse hostility.

Mahathir has been engaged in a blame game with PAS over the decades-old Memali tragedy, with the former premier accusing PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang of having instigated his members into a clash with the authorities with the latter's infamous 'amanat Hadi' of the time.

At the Bersatu AGM, Mahathir took a jab at the country's muftis saying they would be akin to kafirs (infidels) according to Hadi's amanat.

Amanat Hadi is the infamous sermon that had preceded the clash between armed followers of Kedah PAS leader Ibrahim Mahmud (or Ibrahim Libya) and the police, who were attempting to arrest him.

The bloody confrontation led to the deaths of Ibrahim along with 14 villagers and four police officers.

Critics of the amanat point to a passage that urged followers to oppose Umno-BN "because they have maintained the colonialist constitution, maintained laws of the infidels, maintained jahiliyyah rules.

"[…] That is why we are fighting against them.

"Our struggle is jihad, our speeches are jihad, our donation is jihad. Hold fast to Allah to face these tribes as if we die fighting these tribes, our death is syahid. Our death is Islam."

Hadi maintains his words have been misinterpreted.
